Orchestra: Philharmonie Südwestfalen (Landesorchester NRW)
Conductor & Soloist: Enrique Ugarte
Programme: "La Fiesta" with works by George Gershwin, Chick Corea, Astor Piazolla, Cole Porter and Glen Miller
The Philharmonie Südwestfalen has held the title of State Orchestra of North Rhine-Westphalia since 1992. Based in Siegen-Wittgenstein (Siegen), the Philharmonic Orchestra performs its programs throughout the South Westphalia region. In addition, the orchestra regularly performs on concert stages in Germany, as well as in the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, Italy and the Czech Republic.
As a concert orchestra, the Philharmonie Südwestfalen cultivates the classical, romantic and modern concert repertoire, but has also made a name for itself in recent years with its open-minded programming policy. Contemporary works can be heard as well as "rediscovered" baroque music. In 2007, two commissioned works (Iris ter Schiphorst and Gerhard Stäbler) were premiered. The orchestra traditionally accompanies numerous concert choirs - not only in the region - and gladly accepts invitations as guest orchestra of the major music theaters in NRW (Düsseldorf, Essen, Cologne, Bonn) and concerts with singing stars.
