It was a turbulent weekend in Porta Westfalica, back in August 1979. The Hausberg schools and the music school organized children's culture days from 16 to 18 August, which the Stadtkulturring, at the suggestion of the then town director Dr. Wolf Berger, wanted to transform seamlessly into a town festival. This is how it began and is still celebrated every year on the second full weekend in September in Hausberg's good parlor. It was only canceled in 2001 due to the events in New York on September 11.
Until a few years ago, the "City Festival Working Group" determined the organization of this event. The Stadtfest-Verein, which was founded in February 2009, has taken over key elements: the festival is family and club-oriented, e.g. through the children's flea market and the children's program as well as reasonable prices for drinks and food. To ensure that the entertainment program is attractive for young and old, groups from clubs and schools perform alongside well-known bands during the day.
