Until around the turn of the 20th century - when electric lights and motorized patrolmen were not yet available everywhere - night watchmen ensured the safety of the population from dusk until dawn. When the citizens heard the hourly call "Listen people and let me tell you..." they knew they were safe and could sleep peacefully. The night watchman, on the other hand, often had a hard time keeping his eyes open - after all, he had to work during the day to earn his meagre living. He was on the lowest rung of the social ladder, if at all, and was largely excluded from social life. As a result, he developed a very peculiar way of seeing things around him.
The night watchman, who would like to take you on his tour through the streets and alleyways of Lemgo and Blomberg today, is also happy to share his quaint stories and sometimes unusual views on God and the world with you...
